JUNE IS GYPSY ROMA TRAVELLER HISTORY MONTH
We offer an education pack for ages 11-16 to learn more about Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month.
Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) History Month, held every June in the UK, is a time to celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of GRT communities. It offers a vital opportunity to challenge stereotypes and increase understanding of these often-misunderstood groups. Teaching young people about GRT heritage is important not only for promoting inclusion and respect but also for fostering a more accurate and diverse view of British history. By learning about these cultures, students can grow into more empathetic, informed citizens who value and protect the rights of all communities.
Sherrie Smith, CEO of TravelStronger talks to EACHOTHER:
"I'm A Gypsy: I Want My Grandchildren To Be Proud Of That Fact"
Why is it important to celebrate GRTHM?
Celebrating Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month recognises the rich heritage, traditions, and contributions of GRT communities, challenges long-standing prejudice and harmful stereotypes, raises awareness of ongoing social inequalities, and promotes greater inclusion, respect, and understanding across wider society while amplifying voices that are too often overlooked.
